Habitat NYC’s "Community Preservation Program" program consists of multi-day projects of painting, planting, or doing light “fix-up” work in all five boroughs at community centers and low-income affordable cooperatives. This work saves tenants and community centers thousands of dollars, and brightens the spaces, breathing new life into existing housing and community centers.

Based less than 5 km from our London office, The Whitechapel Mission supports the homeless communities of east London, serving breakfast daily as well as providing showers, clothing, skills and career advice.

Supporting up to 600 people seven days a week, 365 days a year, the Whitechapel Mission relies on fundraising, donations and volunteers, and Brookfield is proud to have been supporting them as one of our corporate charity partners since 2021.  Groups of 8-10 Brookfield volunteers regularly participate in the Breakfast challenge, preparing and serving hot meals to the individuals that The Whitechapel Mission supports.

In addition, Brookfield holds regular clothing drives, collecting items from employees and delivering these to the mission, as well as participating in sessions to help the Whitechapel Mission sort clothing donations.

Reducing housing vulnerability and enhancing the well-being of disadvantaged communities are central tenets of Brookfield Cares, our global corporate philanthropy program. This initiative is dedicated to making a meaningful impact on the communities where we operate.

Between 2023 and 2024, we have identified 40 families in São Paulo and Guarulhos to receive renovations for one room in their homes. This effort is part of a broader goal to address the housing shortage through subsidized social renovations.

We also rallied our employees to volunteer, assisting with the final touches and presenting the refurbished rooms to the families. This collective endeavor not only improves living conditions but also fosters a spirit of community and shared responsibility.

Taronga Conservation Society Australia is committed to securing a shared future for wildlife and people with activities that span the fields of animal care, recovery, education, community engagement, guest experience and science. A key part of Taronga’s efforts is focused on raising awareness around marine pollution and how many marine animals are susceptible to eating or getting caught in discarded plastic.

In line with World Earth Day each year, Brookfield Cares Australia work with Taronga Conservation Society Australia to clean up the beaches and water ways in Sydney. 
 

Each year, Brookfield supports the American Heart Association by sponsoring the Wall Street Run & Heart Walk. The AHA is the nation’s oldest and largest voluntary organization dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke. A shared focus on cardiovascular health unites our more than 35 million volunteers and supporters as well as our more than 2,900 employees.  

The Run & Heart Walk allows participants to take the first step to save lives. Every person who joins, every dollar donated means more research, more people trained in lifesaving CPR, more medical breakthroughs and more champions for equitable health. 2024 is the 100 year anniversary of the organization.  

Katalyst is an NGO that works towards the economic empowerment of women in India. In 2021, Brookfield partnered with Katalyst to sponsor the education of eight women students pursuing engineering courses.  These students come from challenging financial backgrounds and don’t receive guidance or have role models to support them. The program provides mentorship, access to best-in-class technology and assistance with internships.  
 

Heart to Heart is a Shanghai based special fund of Ren De Foundation providing corrective surgery for Chinese children from all over China with congenital heart disease (CHD) whose parents are unable to afford the surgery. To date, H2H has sponsored over 3,260 children for heart surgery. The surgeries not only saved their lives, but transformed the lives of their families. Heart to Heart is  a 100% volunteer organization where 100% of donations are used for surgeries.

Since 2020, Brookfield Cares Shanghai has been supporting H2H by holding fundraising events, our employees donate their time, effort and money to help kids in need. Between 2020-2023, we have raised over RMB800,000 and supported almost 30 children on their heart surgeries. 

The Cuddles Foundation helps children fight cancer with holistic nutrition. We partnered with the foundation to support children receiving treatment in India. Our initiative provides supplements for severely malnourished children who cannot meet their nutritional needs through a standard diet alone. We also support the ration program, which supplies a monthly ration to a family of four, ensuring children receive wholesome meals at home and reducing the likelihood of abandoning treatment due to financial constraints. This initiative has successfully supported over 650 children battling cancer.

Annually, the São Paulo office gets together to host a Blood Drive campaign, in collaboration with Albert Einstein Hospital. In its 2024 iteration, 58 employees from Brookfield and Brookfield Properties donated approximately 25 liters of blood. Each contribution can potentially save up to four lives!

The convenience of donating blood during work hours motivated employees to participate. "Being able to donate blood at the office truly makes it easier to support the many lives that rely on such a simple act of kindness! I've participated in the last two events and plan to continue doing so," shared Marcella Santos, Tax Analyst.

Gastromotiva is a Brazilian organization established in 2006 that leverages the power of food for social change by focusing on education, social inclusion, and combating waste. The "Solidarity Kitchen" initiative is one of its key projects, where community kitchens are set up in disadvantaged areas to provide meals to families facing food insecurity, while also training cooks and entrepreneurs to manage these kitchens.

In 2023, our employees engaged in a unique volunteering experience, preparing over 700 meals for donations to the homeless. Approximately 40 employees visited Gastromotiva's affiliate kitchen in the Jaguaré district of São Paulo, participated in meal preparation, and later assisted in distributing the food to two local communities.

Since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, Gastromotiva has distributed more than 1.4 million nutritious meals to those in social vulnerability and has salvaged over 300 tons of food from being wasted. 

In 2023 and 2024, Brookfield's São Paulo office staff embarked on a mentoring journey, guiding young low-income individuals at the dawn of their careers, in a collaboration with the Joule Institute.  

In total, 70 young participants were paired with mentors from Brookfield and Brookfield Properties, exploring topics such as uncovering one's purpose, emotional intelligence, educational pathways, career guidance, essential hard and soft skills, time management, financial literacy, and crafting a career plan.

This program enabled the youth to gain a deeper comprehension of the job market and expand their vision for the future.

The Early Bird Cafe offers meals each day to the disadvantaged of Sydney CBD and has grown to serve over 35,000 meals a year. Brookfield Cares Australia has been volunteering and supporting Early Bird Café for over 10 years, cooking and serving meals and holding winter clothing drives to support Sydney’s homeless community.  

Our teams came together for a volunteer initiative, planting numerous white and yellow ipê trees at a development in São Paulo. Each tree was symbolically tagged with a QR code, detailing the tree's information and the names of the volunteers.

This initiative not only contributes to the sustainability of our planet but also strengthens the bond between our business and the local communities, enhancing the shared spaces of the Parque da Cidade in São Paulo.

These efforts align with our ESG principles, which emphasize community development and minimizing environmental impact, reflecting our commitment to a sustainable future. 

Inali foundation aims to provide affordable upper limbs to those who have lost them in an accident or were born without them. Brookfield has been partnering with the Inali Foundation in India since 2021 to provide prosthetic limbs to those facing the dual challenge of loss of limbs and financial hardship. By organizing various camps across India, we have provided over 1100 prosthetic arms to those in need. This initiative offers individuals with a chance to reclaim autonomy and rewrite their narratives.

Brookfield supports the construction of infrastructure facilities in rural Telangana in India. These facilities will be used by the students and teachers of a care center and two schools, positively impacting 360 individuals. We’ve also facilitated the construction of a science lab, dining hall, library and sanitation facilities. By constructing modern educational facilities equipped with resources, we aspire to empower students with knowledge and skills essential for their future success. We envision not just physical structures, but thriving centers of education that ignite minds, drive innovation, and pave the way for a promising future.

Yalari supports the education and empowerment of Indigenous children, investing in Australia’s next generation of leaders by creating equitable opportunities and outcomes for successive generations of Indigenous children.

This year, Brookfield Cares Australia has committed to funding a scholarship for an Indigenous student to study at a leading boarding school from year 7 to 12. This scholarship will not only provide quality education, but also extracurricular sporting, vocational and life experiences that a student might otherwise never encounter. Students also have access to a network of educational, pastoral, personal and cultural support provided by the Yalari team through wellbeing and educational support programs as well as camps and activities organized each year.
