How would you describe the culture at Brookfield?
I would say it’s a very fast-paced, collaborative environment. Everyone is both smart and hardworking, which provides for continuous learning opportunities.
What does your team do at Brookfield?
I sit in our credit group and focus primarily on real estate investments. This includes lending and structured solutions and across asset classes and product types, including traditional mortgage loans, real estate credit facilities, and residential housing credit. For example, we are currently in process of closing a ~$100M mortgage loan on a 200 unit multifamily asset in downtown San Francisco, CA.
“There are no walls at Brookfield, we really collaborate across all teams."
What is something unique about Brookfield?
What's especially unique is our ability to leverage our in-house owner / operator knowledge in real estate to ensure we’re thinking about investments from all lenses and making sound investment decisions. In the case of the multifamily loan we are closing, we worked closely with our multifamily equity team to gather information on where they are seeing rents on assets that Brookfield owns in the San Francisco market.
What is something you’ve learned in your current role?
I’ve learned how to be diligent and better synthesize information to make informed investment recommendations that consider all potential risk factors. This can include assessing oncoming multifamily supply in the San Francisco market to further understand competition for assets we’re lending to and downside impacts to asset valuation.
