Launched in 2022, ARC (Advanced Research Clusters) was created through the merger of Brookfield investments in the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus – a joint venture with the U.K. Government - and Arlington. ARC offers premier specialized real estate environments sought by science and technology organizations, bringing tenants together in clusters around major scientific and research hubs that stimulate innovation and accelerate commercial growth.
Today, ARC’s portfolio comprises 1.6 million square feet of existing assets and 5 million square feet of development potential across the U.K.’s Golden Triangle. ARC also provides us with a strong base from which to expand in the U.K. and Europe, benefiting from Brookfield’s global networks and partnership with King Street’s life sciences business in the U.S.
The strong runway of growth ahead of science and technology makes science and innovation an attractive sector for Brookfield. With unprecedented levels of private and public capital flowing into the science, technology and innovation sectors, there is a tremendous opportunity to create centres of excellence that foster and accelerate growth.
Building platform businesses is part of Brookfield’s DNA spanning the breadth of our business from hydro, wind and utilities, to multifamily, student housing, and now life sciences. Our operating capabilities and flexible patient capital enables us to invest in a sector’s infancy, acquiring single assets or small portfolios and rapidly building teams, operations and growth functions as well as being able to take development risk to create scale, institutional-quality platforms.
